His Em. Luis Antonio Gokim Cardinal Tagle ( Cardinal Chito ), appointed by Pope Francis, is the new prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples since 8 December 2019. He replaces Cardinal Fernando Filoni in this important task.
Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle was born on 21 June 1957 in Manila (Philippines) he comes from a modest family, "his parents gave him the most beautiful gift for his future life: they took care to give an excellent education to their children and to transmit moral values to them ”, this is how he presents himself“ so that he and his brother could have a solid basis to prepare them for their life in society ”.
He studied philosophy at the seminary of San Giuseppe in Manila and graduated from the University of Manila . He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Imus on February 27, 1982. Initially he served in parishes and seminaries, in one of which he was rector.
Sent to the Catholic University of America in Washington DC (1985-1991), where he completed his studies with a doctorate in Theology defending his thesis on the notion of episcopal collegiality according to the Second Vatican Council and on the influence of Pope Paul VI on it.
In 1997 he was appointed member of the International Theological Commission .
Returning to the Philippines, he worked in various parishes, again as rector of the diocesan seminary, and for some years as a professor of theology in four seminaries.
Pope John Paul II, on October 22, 2001, appointed him bishop of Imus, a diocese of 2.6 million Catholics. On 13 October 2011 he was appointed archbishop of Manila.
Cardinal Tagle is a theologian and sought-after lecturer; he collaborated with Giuseppe Alberigo in the work The history of the Council , in which he exposes his vision of the Catholic Church in the third millennium.
He was appointed cardinal on November 24, 2012, at the age of 55, receiving the title of San Felice da Cantalice in Centocelle.
In the Roman Curia he is a member of the Pontifical Commission for the family (he is president of the committee) and of the Dicastery for the pastoral care of migrants and itinerant people , of the Congregations for Catholic Education , for Institutes of consecrated life and Societies of apostolic life. and also of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts .
He has participated in various Synods (1998, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018). In the Synod on The Word of God in the life and mission of the Church , (2008), he actively participated with a statement that distinguishes him: " A Church that does not listen to the poor cannot celebrate the Word of God" .
Cardinal Tagle has his own television program " The Word Exposed " (program of the Jesuits of the Philippines that engages in the production of audiovisual material for evangelization and education, running since 2008), here, every week, he comments on the readings of the mass for the following Sunday. He has his own Facebook profile .
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle is President of the Catholic Biblical Federation , confirmed by Pope Francis on March 8, 2015, and is President of Caritas Internationalis.
Archbishop Protase Rugambwa was born on May 31, 1960 in Bunena, in the Diocese of Bukoba, Tanzania.
His training process:
· 1967-1982: Elementary and secondary schools;
1982-1983: Military Service;
1983-1985: Studies in Philosophy in the Major Seminary of Kibosho in Tanzania;
· 1985-1989: Studies in Theology at the “ St. Charles Lwanga Segerea Senior Seminary ” in Tanzania.
He was ordained a priest on 2 September 1990 in Dar-es-Salaam by the Holy Father John Paul II during his pastoral visit to Tanzania and was incardinated in the diocese of Rulenge, now Rulenge-Ngara.
After his ordination he held the following positions:
1990-1991: parish vicar in the parish of Mabira, Diocese of Rulenge;
1991-1994: Teacher in the Minor Seminary of Katoke, in charge of the liturgy and chaplain in the hospital of Biharamulo, Diocese of Rulenge;
1994-1998: Licentiate and doctorate studies in pastoral theology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome ;
1998-1999: Director of a diocesan preparatory seminary, San Tammaro, Director of vocations, Executive Secretary of the diocesan pastoral department, also in the diocese of Rulenge;
· 2000-2002: Vicar General of the diocese of Rulenge and Moderator of the staff; 2002-2008: Official of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, in Rome.
On January 18, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of the Diocese of Kigoma , Tanzania. He received episcopal consecration on April 13, 2008.
On 26 June 2012 , HE Msgr.Rugambwa was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples with the role of President of the Pontifical Mission Societies , replacing HE Msgr. age. At the same time HE Mons. Rugambwa received the title of Archbishop " ad personam ".
From 1995 until today, HE Msgr.Rugambwa, during the holidays of Christmas, Easter and other occasions, has given a hand to the parish priest, Mgr.Alfonso D'Errico, Parish of San Tammaro Vescovo - Grumo Nevano, celebrating Holy Masses and also administering the Sacraments.
Msgr. Giampietro Dal Toso was ordained a priest June 24, 1989 for the Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone. After three years of ministry in the diocese, he studied philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University , earning his doctorate in December 1997. In June 2001, he obtained a degree in Canon Law at the Pontifical Lateran University .
In 1996 he took up service as an Official of the Pontifical Council " Cor Unum ". In 2004 he was appointed Under-Secretary of the same Dicastery and from 22 June 2010 Secretary. He held the office until the dissolution of the Dicastery in the new Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development on December 31, 2016. On November 9, 2017, the Holy Father appointed Mgr. Giampietro Dal Toso Assistant Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies , conferring on him the dignity of titular Archbishop of Foraziana.
He received episcopal ordination on 16 December from Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
Father Tadeusz Jan Nowak was born in Krakow, Poland on November 1, 1956. In 1959 his family emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
His academic background: he attended high school in Winnipeg; in 1972 he graduated in chemistry, University of Manitoba. In 1984 he obtained the Master of Divinity, Newman College , Alberta. He graduated in Biblical Theology in 2004-5 and researched for a doctorate in Biblical Theology in 2006-7, at the University of Sao Paulo , Ottawa.
His religious formation: he entered the Novitiate of the Congregation of the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate , OMI, in 1977 in Arnprior and made his perpetual vows in 1984 in Mississauga. He was ordained a priest on August 24, 1984 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Priestly service: he begins his priestly activity in the city of Toronto. From 1984 - 1986 he was Vicar of the parish of St. Stanislaus Kostka, from 1986 to 1989 he was Vicar of the parish of St. Casimir and from 1989 to 1991 he was parish administrator of the parish of Our Lady. In 1991 he moved to Mississaug and until 1995 he was parish priest of the Parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe.
In 1996 he was called to hold the position of Superior of the Province of the Assumption of the IMO in Canada, until 1999.
From 1999 to 2000 he was in Jerusalem to complete his Biblical Studies at the Ecole Biblique .
Returning to Canada, he was in charge of managing the Retreat House of the Queen of Apostles until 2003, when he was appointed Rector of the OMI Seminary in Ottawa until 2007.
From 2007 to 2010 he was Dean of Studies and Professor of Scripture at the Diocesan Seminary of Sant'Agostino, Toronto.
In 2010 he was called to work at the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples as a secretarial employee.
On 27 September 2017 he was appointed ad interim Secretary General of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith and on 1 July 2018 his position was confirmed as General Secretary of the Work .
Sister Roberta Tremarelli was born in Rome on 10 August 1969.
She graduated in Economics and Commerce in Rome and after working experience she entered the Institute of the Missionary Handmaids of the Blessed Sacrament .
He attended and obtained a Licentiate in Religious Sciences with a specialty in missionary catechesis at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome .
He has worked in missionary animation and formation with children, young people and families in some areas of Italy and for various activities of his religious institute.
On 1 October 2017, the feast of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, patroness of the Missions, the mandate of Secretary General of the Work of the Holy Childhood in Rome begins.
Father Guy BOGNON was born in Adjohoun (Ouémé, Benin) on 12 June 1969 and was ordained a priest on 21 October 2000. He trained at the "Saint Paul" minor seminary in Djimè * , the Notre-Dame de Fatima medium seminary in Parakou, therefore, after the preparatory seminary in Porto-Novo, at the major seminary “St. Gall ”of Ouidah, where he earned his bachelor's degree in theology. After his priestly ordination he was Vicar of the Cathedral of Porto Novo.
In 2002, in France, he joined the Compagnie des Prêtres de Saint Sulpice (PSS), of which he became a member in 2005 after a training period in Montreal (Canada).
He holds a degree in biblical theology from the University of Toulouse (France) and a license in biblical exegesis from the Pontifical Biblical Institute (Rome) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Then from 2009 to 2013, he was a formator and teacher at the St. Gall major seminary in Ouidah, in charge of the formation of PSS candidates in Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo, in charge of the ongoing formation of young priests of the diocese of Porto Novo.
In June 2013 he was appointed Rector of the “Saint Paul” interdiocesan major seminary in the diocese of Abomey (Benin).
In 2015 he was called to Rome to collaborate in the Secretariat of the Work of St. Peter the Apostle and in 2018 he was appointed Secretary General of the Work.
* Since 2008 this seminar has been transformed into a major philosophy seminar .
Father Fabrizio Meroni , missionary priest of PIME, on 1 December 2015 was appointed Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PUM) and director of the International Center for Mission and Formation (CIAM), at the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Since August 2016 he has also been director of Fide s, the press agency of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
Father Meroni, who holds a PhD, was the Coordinator of the five-year project for the renewal of the Department of Philosophy at the Royal University of Phnom Penh , Cambodia (1996-2000). From 2001 to 2011 he was director of the Center for Christian Culture and Formation (CCFC) of the archdiocese of Belém do Pará, Brazil, and Coordinator of the University Pastoral Service for the same archdiocese. For 11 years he taught Systematic Theology courses at the Instituto Regional de Formação Presbiteral (IRFP) of the Brazilian Episcopal Conference (CNNB-NORTE 2) in Belém do Pará and at the Diocesan Seminary of Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais. From 2006 to 2011, he was President of the Amazon Center for Bioethics (CBAm).
In 2014, Father Meroni was aggregated to the Faculty of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family at the Catholic University of America , Washington DC, to teach in the area of theological anthropology.
